Five more products detected with melamine

From AVA

The AVA has detected melamine in an additional 5 products imported from China. Two are flavoured milk and three are confectioneries containing milk powder as an ingredient. They are :
i) Dutch Lady Banana Flavoured Milk (36.7ppm - 48.7 ppm of melamine detected);

ii) Dutch Lady Honeydew Flavoured Milk (9.43ppm - 58.7 ppm of melamine detected);


iii) Silang - House of Steamed Potato - Potato Cracker (11.96 ppm of melamine detected);


iv) 徐 福 记 Puffed Rice Rolls - Butter Corn Flavour (10.7 ppm of melamine detected); and
v) 徐 福 记 Puffed Rice Rolls - Cheese Flavour (8.5 ppm of melamine detected)

“White Rabbit Creamy Candy” Found To Contain Melamine

AVA’s latest laboratory findings show that the “White Rabbit Creamy Candy” (大白兔奶糖) from China is also contaminated with melamine. Consumers who have bought the affected products are advised not to consume them.

Since 19 Sep 08, AVA has suspended the import and sale of all milk and milk products from China. These products include milk, ice-cream, yoghurt, confectionery such as chocolates, biscuits and sweets as well as any other products containing milk from China as an ingredient.


As a precaution, consumers are also advised not to consume any milk or milk products from China.

Suspension Of All Milk And Milk Products From China

From AVA:

AVA had earlier issued a consumer advisory on 17 September 2008 about the recall of "Yili Brand" Choice Dairy Fruit Bar Yogurt Flavoured Ice Confection” based on Hong Kong’s findings of melamine contamination in such products. AVA had taken samples of the product for testing and subsequently found two samples to be contaminated with melamine. All stocks of "Yili Brand" Choice Dairy Fruit Bar Yogurt Flavoured Ice Confection” have been removed from market shelves since 17 September 2008 and will be destroyed.


Tests conducted by AVA also found that the “Dutch Lady” brand of strawberry flavoured milk manufactured in China to be contaminated with melamine. These products have also been recalled and will be destroyed. Other “Dutch Lady” brand milk products which are not manufactured in China are unaffected.



Consumers who have bought “Yili Brand” Choice Dairy Fruit Bar Yogurt Flavoured Ice Confection and “Dutch Lady” brand of strawberry flavoured milk (manufactured in China) are advised by the AVA not to consume them.

As a precautionary measure, AVA is also suspending the import and sale of all milk and milk products from China with immediate effect. Retailers and importers have been instructed to recall these products and these products will be withheld from sale until they have cleared the necessary tests.

Consumers are also advised not to consume any milk and milk products from China pending AVA’s investigations.

AVA would like to reassure the public that there is no import of infant formula from China into Singapore. Infant formulas sold in Singapore are safe for consumption.

Recall of Yili Natural Choice Fruit Yogurt Flavoured Ice Bar with Real Fruit

The Hong Kong Centre for Food Safety (CFS) has issued a press release on the recall of "Yili brand" Natural Choice Yogurt Flavoured Ice Bar with Real Fruit (90ml), produced by Shanghai Yili AB Foods Co. Ltd., as a sample of the product was found to contain low levels of melamine (15ppm).

As a precautionary measure, AVA has advised importers and retailers to ermove this product from the market and withhold them from sale immediately, pending the result of AVA's investigation and tests.

AVA advises consumers who have bought the implicated product not to consume them.

In addition, AVA is conducting tests on other imported milk and dairy products from China for melamine contamination.
